Angry fans of “The Handmaid’s Tale” rallied enough social media rage this week to put an end to a company’s “sexy” version of the show’s dystopian garb.

“Sexy” versions of character’s in Disney movies populate Yany.com’s website, but its “Yandy Brave Red Maiden Costume” has gone down an Orwellian “Memory Hole” after being characterized as a “symbol of women’s oppression.”

A backlash on Twitter Thursday prompted the company to issue an apology for failing to provide an “expression of women’s empowerment.”

“This is unfortunate, as it was not our intention on any level,” the company said in a statement. “Our initial inspiration to create the piece was through witnessing its use in recent months as a powerful protest image. Given the sincere, heartfelt response, supported by numerous personal stories we’ve received, we are removing the costume from our website.”

“The Handmaid’ Tale” is a Hulu television tale based on a 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood.

The Emmy-winning show features women after a second civil war whose primary role in society is to bear children.
