Alec Baldwin has confirmed that he will be ready to mock President Trump when “Saturday Night Live” begins its 44th season.
The liberal activist and actor appeared on the “Origins with James Andrew Miller” podcast Friday and said that despite “fatigue” with the role, he will assist his friends.
“I have fun doing it, there’s no doubt about that,” Mr. Baldwin told the host. “They are all old and dear friends of mine, and I love going there. When the show is good, there is nothing like it. But for me, I think I’m going to do some of it, but not a whole lot. Because I also think, and this is critical, there is a lot of fatigue. There are a lot of other things that I kind of need to be doing right now on the weekends. The problem with the show is it’s got an unorthodox schedule.”
Producer Lorne Michaels, who also took part in the podcast, said Mr. Baldwin was someone the show could “always count on.”
“The audience connects to him in that role,” he said. “Sometimes I feel like we are still in campaign mode. But, we see each other a fair amount, so we don’t much talk about it in the offseason. And then, I think he was at the U.S. Open last week, and somebody asked him if he was doing Trump. And he said, ’yeah.’ And his agent Matt DelPiano texted me and said, ’I think he’s doing Trump.’ And I went, ’Oh, OK.’”
Actor Adam Driver will host the show’s Sept. 29 season premiere with musical guest Kanye West.
