PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a pedestrian has died in west Phoenix after being struck by a semi-truck.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson the incident happened around 1:45 p.m. Thursday near Van Buren Street and 35th Avenue.

According to Thompson, the driver of a semi-truck with a flatbed trailer was making a right turn when the rear wheels of the trailer went up onto the sidewalk.

That led to a collision with a man who was on the sidewalk.

Thompson says the victim died at the scene.

The 30-year-old male driver remained at the scene. He showed no signs of impairment.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police say charges are pending.
