President Trump got a briefing on the ground in North Carolina Wednesday about hurricane recovery efforts then visited an aid center.
Mr. Trump handed out containers of food to a line of cars and stood for photos with aide workers under sunny skies in New Bern.
“Some of the hardest work is taking place right now, even though it’s nice and beautiful and sunny,” the president said at the morning briefing at a military base.
Mr. Trump said he’ll make sure disaster relief money pours into the region, which was slammed by Hurricane Florence.
“We’re giving you a lot of help,” Trump said to one resident as he toured a storm-damaged neighborhood, doling out hugs and words of comfort.
At one house the president eyed a boat shipwrecked up against the wooden deck, and asked the owner if it belonged to him. The man said no.
“At least you got a nice boat out of the deal,” Mr. Trump told him.
The president told reporters the owner said his insurance company was balking at paying for the damage to the house. Mr. Trump said he was going to find out who the man’s company was.
“They don’t know whose boat that is,” he said. “What’s the law? Maybe it becomes theirs.”
