ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities a man who fired at police officers in Alabama has been captured in Atlanta.

News outlets report 34-year-old Cornelius Williams Jr. was captured Tuesday after two days on the run.

The ordeal began when an off-duty officer reported shots fired Sunday morning. Birmingham police say responding officers encountered Williams leaving the area. They say Williams began to shoot toward officers and one officer returned fire before Williams fled. Police say no officers were injured, but Williams’ father sustained injuries. He was last reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators learned Williams was headed to Atlanta. U.S. Marshals began checking locations and spotted Williams’ vehicle.

Williams was taken into custody and charged with offenses that include four counts of attempted murder. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
