Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis did not play the second half of the team’s 31-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday, and at least one teammate said Davis “retired” from football at halftime.
“He didn’t say nothing to nobody,” linebacker Lorenzo Alexander said. “I found out going into the second half of the game. They said he’s not coming out, he retired.”

Alexander said he found out about Davis’ decision from teammates discussing it on the sideline.
“[He] pulled himself out of the game,” coach Sean McDermott told reporters after the game. “He communicated to us that he was done.”
The 0-2 Bills might be considered the worst team in the NFL thanks to their 47-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. Davis was a healthy scratch for that game, but even if he is frustrated with the direction of the team, his move Sunday nonetheless was a surprise.
Davis, 30, played nine seasons for the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts before joining the Bills on a one-year deal. If Sunday really was the last time Davis suited up for a game, he finished his career with 22 interceptions and three forced fumbles.
UPDATE: Davis released a statement a few hours after the end of the game confirming he was retiring from the NFL.
