ATLANTA (AP) - A man has been charged in the death of a former National Guard member killed during a chase involving authorities.

Police tell The Atlanta Journal-Constitution 30-year-old Jaron Hester was booked into jail Friday in connection with the Sept. 2 wreck that killed 25-year-old Jazmin Jeanty. He was charged with murder, DUI and other offenses.

Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Franka Young has said an Atlanta officer attempted to pull over Hester. Jeanty was a passenger in the vehicle. Hester didn’t stop, leading to the chase.

Young said Hester lost control of the vehicle, which went through a guardrail and over an embankment. Jeanty was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene. A crash report says she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

It’s unclear if Hester has a lawyer.
