BOSTON (AP) - Emergency crews from New England are heading south to help anticipated rescue and recovery efforts following Hurricane Florence.
The Boston Globe reports a U.S. Coast Guard cutter based in Newport, Rhode Island, is making its way to Portsmouth, Virginia, where it will make sure ports are clear for traffic following the storm.
Meanwhile the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency says four of its officials are heading to Washington, Virginia and North Carolina to support other agencies preparing response efforts.
More than 60 members of a volunteer search and rescue team in Massachusetts separately traveled to Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina under direction of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The National Hurricane Center says it expects Florence to blow ashore as early as Friday afternoon around the North Carolina-South Carolina line.
