DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A federal reports shows that a Veterans Affairs hospital in eastern Illinois is having trouble filling many of its health care jobs.
The national report released by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs found that the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville had 167 open positions as of June 30. The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports 105 openings were in the medical and dental fields. The hospital has more than 1,400 employees.
The report says the VA has more than 23,000 medical and dental vacancies at its 140 medical centers across the country. VA officials blame a lack of available physicians and nurses.
Danville hospital spokesman Todd Oliver says its average wait for primary care is 3.2 days, compared with 4.5 days nationally.
