CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu says the state needs to be proactive to respond to the growing rate of suicide.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide rates in New Hampshire have been rising faster than most other states in recent years. New Hampshire Public Radio reports the Republican governor spoke in Concord Monday with suicide prevention advocates.
Sununu says the state has been too reactive to the crisis, and needs to emphasize prevention and proactive action. The state’s suicide prevention plan calls for greater outreach to policy makers around the issue, as well as outreach to higher-risk communities like veterans and gun-owners.
