SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities are searching for suspects in the shooting death of an active-duty Marine near San Diego.

Sheriff’s officials say Sgt. Christopher Truax was found inside a car bleeding from a gunshot wound early Friday in the city of Lemon Grove.

The 21-year-old died at the scene. Detectives are asking for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

The Marine Corps says Truax, from Horseheads, New York, was assigned to Southern California’s Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) north of Lemon Grove.

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Truax is the second Marine killed in the San Diego area over the past year. In late December, 21-year-old Cpl. Ryan Harris was stabbed as he tried to break up a fight.
