OPINION:
Barack Obama’s return to national television may have jarred — particularly the channel surfing crowd, but also the patriotic types who spent the eight years of the previous administration crossing off “Days Left” on their calendars.
But in the end, his broadcast speech was a good thing — for Republicans.
Conservatives the country over are now recalling all the reasons they hated Obama’s administration. Headlines from commentators and headliners from pundits are all pointing that same way, all taking out the same lists and checking them twice: Top 100 Reasons We’re Glad Obama’s Gone.”
All this reignited fury against Obama has to be good for elections. It has to bode well for the GOP.
If Obama’s hubris and back-patting don’t energize the Republican base — well, what will?
Word is, post-Obama speech, even Jeff Flake is tossing in with Team Trump come 2020. (Not really.) But seriously now: Obama’s face on Fox News, his hour-long arrogant attempt to take credit from President Donald Trump where no credit is due, his mind-numbingly expressions of pro-progressivism and sneery snide snarks at America’s greatness — they’re the golden tickets for GOP election contests.
When Obama mocks America, Trump-supporting Americans go vote.
The only face that could do more damage for the Democrats and more good for the Republicans would be Hillary’s.
If only Hillary Clinton would trail Obama around the country and campaign in his wake — the next 40 years or so of election contests would all run Republican.
