Gov. Scott Walker is defending a tax break for manufacturers and farmers that his opponent Democrat Tony Evers wants to repeal.
Walker touted the manufacturing and agriculture tax credit during a speech at a meeting of the state chamber of commerce Tuesday.
Walker signed the tax credit at issue into law. It virtually eliminates the tax on income from manufacturing activity in Wisconsin.
Walker says repealing the tax credit would wipe out progress made to bring back manufacturing jobs.
Evers’ spokeswoman Britt Cudaback says Wisconsin’s economy may be working for wealthy corporate interests, but not families. Evers has said eliminating it would help to make the state’s tax system fairer for working class people.

Democratic candidate for governor Tony Evers is touting his plan to reduce the cost of prescription drugs with a pair of new television ads.
Evers on Tuesday unveiled the ads featuring people talking about their struggles to pay for medicine they need. In one , a woman from Oconomowoc says she can’t afford a pill that costs $200 a day that can help her fight kidney disease. In another , a woman from Onalaska with breast cancer says the cost of health care in Wisconsin is “absolutely outrageous.”
Evers released a plan Monday designed to reduce prescription drug costs by creating a new state board to review price hikes and fine drug makers for excessive increases, expanding the SeniorCare program and reducing state expenses on prescription drug purchases.

Gov. Scott Walker is taking his argument against raising the gas tax straight to voters at the pump.
Walker’s campaign on Tuesday unveiled an ad that will play on screens at gas stations as people are filling their cars with gas. In the spot, Walker hits Democratic opponent Tony Evers for being willing to raise the gas tax to pay for roads.
Walker says in the ad it’s a “good thing you’re filling up because if Tony Evers wins he’ll raise the gas tax by as much as a dollar a gallon.”
Evers hasn’t said how much he would be willing to raise the gas tax. But Evers says he’s open to it to find a more sustainable way to pay for transportation expenses in the state.
Walker has said he would only consider a gas tax increase if there’s an equal cut of another tax.
