PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Portland’s airport has lost year-round daily service to New York City from Jet Blue.

Jet Blue said Tuesday that it will now only fly daily between Portland and John F. Kennedy International Airport during the summer.

The company said it’s responding to customer travel patterns and demand, which jumps in warmer months.

The company is stopping service to Portland after Jan. 7. Flights will start up again around Memorial Day.

Delta Airlines, meanwhile, will still fly to New York City’s JFK airport in the winter.

Portland airport director Paul Bradbury said more than 2 million passengers have flown between Portland and New York since Jet Blue started the service in 2006.
