PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - It’s unclear whether Rhode Island state agencies and officials can block users on social media sites following a federal court ruling.

The Providence Journal reports that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s Twitter account has blocked 14 users since 2009. Department officials say four accounts were recently blocked for using “obscene language. The agency says it’s moving to unblock accounts.

A Twitter account for Cranston Mayor and Republican gubernatorial candidate Allan Fung has blocked several users that used profanity.

A federal judge ruled in May that people have a right to reply directly to politicians like President Donald Trump who use Twitter accounts as public forums for official business.

The Transportation Department and the Department of Administration both say they’re reviewing practices concerning Twitter usage.
