First lady Melania Trump will not attend Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s White House swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

In a statement, Mrs. Trump’s spokesperson Stephanie Grisham explained that the first lady had a scheduling conflict.

“The first lady regrets that she will not be able to celebrate with the Kavanaugh family on such a special evening, but she has a longstanding commitment she was unable to change at the last minute,” it read.

CNN’s Kate Bennett shared the statement online.

During her trip to Africa, Mrs. Trump weighed in on the Supreme Court nomination before the confirmation vote. She supported her husband’s pick and said then-Judge Kavanaugh was “highly qualified” to serve.
