VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Attorney General Jim Hood says a former worker for the Mississippi Public Employees Retirement System has been sentenced to prison for illegally taking nearly $64,000.

Hood says a judge on Thursday sentenced 32-year-old Amanda Ruth Combs of Brandon for three counts of embezzlement by a state employee.

Warren County Circuit Court Judge M. James Chaney Jr. gave Combs 10 years in prison, with five suspended. That means she should spend five years in custody and five under supervised probation.

Combs must repay nearly $31,000. The retirement system had already recovered almost $33,000.
