MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Police say they have charged a man whose gun went off, striking and killing his 3-year-old son.

Memphis Police said on social media that 32-year-old Argel Hernandez-Escobar was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated child neglect in the Sept. 30 death of his son, Angel Hernandez.

Police say the father was sitting on the front porch steps with a pistol when it went off, striking him and his son. Police say the 3-year-old was taken to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say the father was transported to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition after a gunshot wound to his leg.
