CASTLETON, Vt. (AP) - Upgrades to the Amtrak passenger rail station in the Vermont town of Castleton are almost complete.
The renovations will make the building compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The work is part of a nationwide survey and upgrade.
The Rutland Herald reports the Castleton station improvements include a new train platform, parking stalls, signage, outdoor deck improvements, restroom updates, hand rails and a ramp for wheelchairs.
Amtrak spokesman Jason Abram says construction for the Castleton project began in 2016. Upgrades to the stations in Montpelier and St. Albans stations have been completed. Now the focus will turn to Essex Junction, Brattleboro and Windsor.
The Castleton station is served by Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express, which runs daily between New York City and Rutland.
