DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The most expensive oceanfront construction project in a Florida community’s history has been halted temporarily.
The city of Daytona Beach this week issued a work-stop order temporarily halting construction on the 4.5-acre Daytona Beach Convention Hotel & Condominiums project.
The city issued the order after the $192 million project’s developer cut ties with its general contractor.
Officials with the developer, Protogroup Inc., say they hope to hire a new general contractor quickly.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that the first tower of the 501-room hotel and condominium project was supposed to be finished next year. The second tower was supposed to be completed in 2020.
Once finished, the project was supposed to have the tallest building in Volusia and Flagler counties, along Florida’s east coast.
