PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh officials say they rescued at least six people from vehicles trapped in flood water from heavy rain.
A police spokeswoman says the rescues performed late Thursday night happened after people drove into high standing water. Officials say emergency crews from several departments blocked roads throughout parts of Pittsburgh as standing water grew.
The rescues included a person pulled from a car that was floating in high water near Chartiers Avenue.
No fatalities were reported. It was unclear Friday how many roads remained closed.
The National Weather Service’s Pittsburgh office recorded about 0.56 inches of rain Thursday, but that adds to a summer of above average rainfall and swollen waterways.
Since June more than 24 inches of rain have been recorded, about 10 inches more than the average.
