AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Republican Gov. Paul LePage’s office says a secretive commission investigating the wind industry’s impact has begun its work.
LePage’s spokeswoman Julie Rabinowitz said Thursday evening the commission LePage launched in January met for the first time Thursday.
Rabinowitz says the commission tentatively plans to meet again this month. She said meetings will be “public per the governor.”
LePage’s office released the commission’s 15 members, including inventor Eric Bleicken and Governor’s Energy Office head Angela Monroe.
LePage’s January executive order announced a halt to new wind project permits in western and coastal Maine. But his administration later told a judge it was ignoring LePage’s order.
LePage also created a commission charged with investigating wind projects’ impacts.
LePage recently told The Associated Press the commission would indeed meet despite several recent departures.
