Fox News host Greg Gutfeld has drawn parallels between Democrats decrying Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
The co-host of “The Five” made the comparison during Thursday’s broadcast of the channel’s panel discussion show as Democrats seek to stop the Republican-controlled Senate from confirming President Trump’s pending high court pick in light of concerns including recently emerged sexual misconduct allegations dating back several decades.
“I am an agnostic when it comes to religion, but I know one thing in my 12 years of Catholic Church,” Mr. Gutfeld said. “It was that crucifixion was an important event because it was designed to establish a wall between justice and mob rule.
“Christ died so that the mob wouldn’t survive, right? He got there. He died for everybody’s sins,” Mr. Gutfeld continued. “This is what the Democrats have tried to do is tear down the wall between justice and mob rule. They decided to crucify someone once again. That’s what’s wrong.”
Mr. Trump nominated Judge Kavanaugh to replace retired Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court in July, but multiple women came forward last month with accusations of sexual misconduct that allegedly occurred while he was in high school and college, delaying a final confirmation vote until likely this weekend.
Judge Kavanaugh vehemently denied the allegations during an emotional appearance on Capitol Hill late last month, and Democrats including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said afterwards that his testimony made him appear unqualified for the high court.
The Senate voted 51-49 Friday in favor of moving forward confirmation proceedings, and a final vote on the judge’s fate is currently expected to happen Saturday.
