SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A southern Utah hotel associated with Dixie State University is removing religious books from its rooms after a complaint from a group which finds violations of separation of church and state.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the Freedom From Religion Foundation submitted their compliant to the university in June.

The group cited the establishment clause of the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment which bans public schools from promoting, endorsing or advancing any religion.

The school decided to ask the Dixie State Inn to remove all copies of the Bible and the Book of Mormon after the university’s assistant general counsel reviewed the issue.

Dixie State spokeswoman Jyl Hall said Monday that it was “an appropriate course of action.”

She says the university does not want to appear to be advancing any religion.
