PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union is criticizing the Rhode Island attorney general’s office’s response to a probe into the state’s spending of a $50 million settlement with Google.

The Providence Journal reports the ACLU of Rhode Island said Democratic Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s actions were “troubling” in a report published Wednesday.

Kilmartin’s office said it wouldn’t give House Minority Leader Patricia Morgan “special treatment” after she asked them to waive up to $8,000 in additional payments to complete a public records request filed in March. Morgan’s already paid $3,750.

The Republican claims the records suggest the office is improperly using the money for operating expenses.

Kilmartin’s spokeswoman said the office disagreed with the ACLU.

The 2012 settlement came after an investigation exposed Google’s role in the online sale of non-FDA approved medications.
