Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema leads in two new polls Wednesday while Rep. Martha McSally, her Republican opponent, leads in another in the race for Arizona’s open U.S. Senate seat.
The crush of polls — three in the same morning — underscores the importance of the race to both parties’ hopes of controlling the Senate after next week’s elections.
Polls by CNN and NBC/Marist give Ms. Sinema the edge, but they are within the margin of error. A Reuters/Ipsos/University of Virginia Center for Politics poll gives Ms. McSally an edge — also within the margin of error.
The close Senate race signals the strong campaigning of Ms. Sinema, particularly when compared to the governor’s race, where incumbent Republican Gov. Doug Ducey is well ahead of Democrat David Garcia.
The Ipsos poll found President Trump’s approval rating has surged in Arizona, rising from 45 percent last month to 54 percent now — including an 8 percentage-point gain in those who “strong approve.”
Immigration is the most important issue in the race, Ipsos found.
