Oprah Winfrey will hit the campaign trail for Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams Thursday, BuzzFeed news reported Wednesday.

In a rare political appearance, the billionaire megastar is scheduled to join the Democratic candidate at two town hall events in Georgia. Ms. Winfrey will also do grassroot campaigning for Ms. Abrams this week, including going door-to-door to make personal pitches for constituents to vote.

“I am honored to have Oprah join me for uplifting and honest conversations with voters about the clear choice before us in this election and the boundless potential of Georgians,” Ms. Abrams told BuzzFeed.

Ms. Abrams and her Republican rival Brian Kemp are locked in a virtually tied gubernatorial race with less than a week left before voting day. Real Clear Politics has Mr. Kemp just 1 point ahead of Ms. Abrams in the polls.
