SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco have effectively swapped chief executives.
Thomas P. Campbell, former director and chief executive of the Met, has been named the new leader of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The FAMSF is the institution that oversees the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor.
The institution’s board announced Campbell’s appointment as its incoming director and chief executive Tuesday.
Campbell, who is 56, resigned from the Met last year. Under his eight year-leadership, attendance at the Met grew but he also faced concerns about the museum’s financial health.
He was replaced by Max Hollein, former head of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Hollein was named the Met’s director in April.
