Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer has a 9-point lead over incumbent Sen. Heidi Heitkamp and even leads among women voters, according to a new poll released Tuesday.
While the lead is less than the double-digit advantage other polls showed him with earlier in October, the Trafalgar Group survey shows him winning across most major demographics.
In the main match-up he leads 54-45, when leaners are included. The poll was taken Oct. 23-24, included 1,498 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.12 percentage points.
Ms. Heitkamp stumbled earlier in the month after announcing her opposition to Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh. Then, amid voter discontent, she ran an ad in which she named sexual assault survivors whom she said were backing her. But some of those she named said they weren’t assault survivors and others said they don’t support Ms. Heitkamp.
The senator was forced to issue apologies, blaming sexual assault victims groups for providing her with bad information.
The Trafalgar poll showed Mr. Cramer leading Ms. Heitkamp among female voters, 53 to 47. His lead among men is even bigger at 56 to 44.
