MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - James Strauss, the former publisher of the Great Falls Tribune, has been named the publisher of the Missoulian and the Ravalli Republic newspapers.

The Missoulian reports Strauss succeeds Mike Gulledge, who announced in September he was leaving Lee Enterprises due to health concerns. Gulledge was a company vice president and publisher of The Billings Gazette, as well.

Strauss resigned from the Tribune in April after serving 15 years as president and publisher of Great Falls Media, which is owned by Gannett. He was executive editor of the media company from 1995 to 2003.

Nathan Bekke, a Lee vice president, said Tuesday that Strauss’ background, experience and leadership make him uniquely qualified to serve as publisher of the papers in Missoula and Hamilton.
