Rush Limbaugh said claims that President Trump was mocking college professor Christine Blasey Ford during a Mississippi rally Tuesday night are coming from those who suffer from truth-induced “vapors.”
The conservative radio host told listeners Wednesday that lawmakers who voice contempt for Mr. Trump’s remarks on the professor accusing Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of attempted rape over three decades ago can’t handle the self-evident truth: both sexes are capable of deception.
“Donald Trump simply voiced what no Republican senator would have,” Mr. Limbaugh said. “These are the questions she should have been asked last Thursday by Republican senators! Her timeline should have been challenged. Her allegations should have been challenged. But they weren’t. The Democrats weren’t going to. The Democrats announced her and stated her to be credible. ’She’s above and beyond reproach!’”
Mr. Trump came under fire from pundits and politicians shortly after addressing a crowd in a reenactment of Ms. Blasey Ford’s testimony last week before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“How’d you get home? ’I don’t remember.’ How’d you get there? ’I don’t remember.’ Where is the place? ’I don’t remember.’ How many years ago was it? ’I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know! I don’t know,’” Mr. Trump said.
Mr. Limbaugh defended the president’s words, saying such a reaction was necessary.
“This is not mocking her,” he said. “This is a sign of what really is wrong in this country. An accuser comes forward, and you can’t poke holes in obvious places? You can’t point out obvious discrepancies? You cannot reference or make mention of the differences in her story, depending on the day she’s telling it? Whatever this is, it is not mocking Christine Blasey Ford!
“That’s why [Mr. Trump] is needed, folks,” the radio host said. “He is willing to do what he did last night. I know. Murkowski and Collins are shuddering and cowering in the corner with the vapors. ’Oh, my God. It was so horrible. It was so horrible!’ It wasn’t horrible. Everything he said is true! He was not mocking her!”
Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski told reporters that Mr. Trump’s comments were “wholly inappropriate and in my view unacceptable.”
Sen. Susan Collins of Maine called the president’s comments “plain wrong.”
