ST. JOHNSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - New York State Police say the body of a 21-year-old woman missing since leaving her job at a convenience store last week has been found in a rural Mohawk Valley town.

Troopers say Wednesday that Michaela MacVilla’s body was found Tuesday by a property owner in the Fulton County town of Oppenheim, 50 miles (80 kilometers) northwest of Albany.

Authorities she was last seen shortly after midnight Sept. 24 leaving the Stewart’s Shop in St. Johnsville in neighboring Montgomery County.

Troopers searched for clues Wednesday along a rural road on the Montgomery and Fulton county line. The area in Fulton County where her body was found is just a few miles from where she worked.

State police say an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
