Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell angrily denounced “far-left protesters” who have attempted to pressure Republicans over Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, saying Wednesday that the efforts have crossed the line.
He pointed to one senator being hounded out of a restaurant, and others who have to be escorted through the hallways of the Capitol’s office buildings to protect them from pushy or violent protesters.
Mr. McConnell said they are trying to scare Republicans into ditching Judge Kavanaugh — but he said it won’t work.
“We’ll not be intimidated by these people. there’s no chance in the world they’re going to scare us from doing our duty,” the Kentucky Republican said.
The anti-GOP efforts have included posting personal details such as senators’ home addresses and cell phone numbers online.
Hallway confrontations with senators, meanwhile, have become must-film events for cable news networks.
Mr. McConnell said Republican senators aren’t victims, but said the confrontations won’t change votes.
