Hunter Shrauger, Make-a-Wish kid, has Capitals dreams come true

Hunter Shrauger has soaked up the experience of a lifetime this week.

The Washington Capitals fan from Michigan walked the red carpet outside Capital One Arena with Alex Ovechkin as part of Wednesday’s season-opening festivities for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

It was made possible by the Make-a-Wish Foundation, after Shrauger said his wish was just to meet Ovechkin.

Shrauger, 17, was diagnosed last year with colitis — inflammation of the colon, which he had to have removed.

Shrauger and his family visited Capitals practice on Tuesday, where he was surprised by being introduced to the team and allowed to skate with them.

He got to see the Stanley Cup in person when meeting team owner Ted Leonsis:

Shrauger was back at MedStar Capitals Iceplex again Wednesday, where he could be found feeding passes to Jakub Vrana for his practice shots.

“This organization does so many great things with the people who need help and tomorrow is going to be a special day again,” Ovechkin said Tuesday. “He’s going to be probably the happiest guy in the whole world walking on the red carpet, watch the game, see the Stanley Cup. It’s going to be pretty cool.”
