BURKE, Vt. (AP) - State officials say a northern Vermont town will receive part of a $250,000 grant for water and wastewater upgrades.

The Caledonian Record reports the state Department of Environmental Conservation announced the grants will help the villages of East and West Burke in the town of Burke, which currently have no municipal sewers.

The grants are expected to create jobs in the villages and prime them for future business development.

The town of Burke was previously awarded more than $438,000 to rehabilitate and improve drainage on a road in partnership with Kingdom Trials.

Tammy Wagner, chairman of the One Burke Infrastructure Committee, says she doesn’t know how much exactly the town will receive and what the split will be.

The grants will be discussed at a meeting scheduled for Nov. 13.
