Have group touchdown celebrations hit their peak?

The World Series is in full swing, so you’ll forgive the Seattle Seahawks for trotting out a baseball-themed celebration after tight end Ed Dickson scored the Seahawks’ third touchdown of the game against the Detroit Lions:

Tyler Lockett “pitches” the football to fellow wideout Doug Baldwin, but as a twist, it’s a hit-by-pitch that results in an all-out brawl (for five seconds) in the end zone.

Watch again, and you’ll notice quarterback and professional baseball player Russell Wilson (the Yankees own his MLB rights) run in and throw the least convincing fake punch ever at receiver David Moore.

Will Brinson of CBS Sports and others noted that it was meant to imitate the infamous scene where then-26-year-old Robin Ventura charged at and put into a headlock by then-46-year-old Nolan Ryan for a hit-by-pitch on Aug. 4, 1993.

It would be the news story of the day if someone had accidentally gotten hurt in the “brawl,” but it was clean and the Seahawks continued to roll in Detroit.
