The Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t make it out of the first month of the season before pulling the trigger on a big coaching decision.
The Cavaliers, who started the season 0-6 and are one of two winless NBA teams, have fired coach Tyronn Lue.
Lue coached the team when it won the 2016 NBA Finals. He replaced David Blatt, who was fired in the middle of that season. But Cleveland’s recent success was largely a product of LeBron James, who left Cleveland for the Los Angeles Lakers this summer.
Lue had a winning percentage of .607 in 211 games coaching the Cavs. He missed some time last season dealing with an illness.
Assistant Larry Drew was promoted to interim head coach.
