SANAA, Yemen (AP) - Yemen’s prime minster says this month’s tropical storm has killed 14 people and made some 8,000 people homeless.
Yemen’s eastern Mahra province was battered by cyclone Luban earlier this month, with three days of rainfall and flooding destroying property and killing livestock.
On Saturday, Yemen’s new prime minister, Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, told a news conference that the cyclone also injured 124 people and 10 people were still missing.
Saeed also called on the international community to help rebuild the worst-hit parts of Mahra, where almost 90 percent of infrastructure was damaged.
Yemen, the poorest Arab country, has been ravaged by civil war since 2015. The conflict has turned Yemen into the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. The U.N. warned this week that Yemen faced an “imminent and great big famine.”
