PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A court-appointed receiver who is suing over the collapse of a Rhode Island hospital system’s pension fund says the state attorney general’s office violated state law and failed to “mind the store.”
The Providence Journal reports receiver Stephen Del Sesto’s allegations came after the office opposed using an $8.2 million charitable fund to pay down pension liability.
Del Sesto says Attorney General Peter Kilmartin violated state law by transferring oversight of the fund from the Superior Court to himself.
Kilmartin’s office struck back, asking the “serious and gratuitous” commentary be struck from court record.
Del Sesto said Thursday he stands by his position.
About 2,700 current and former workers of two hospitals belonged to the plan that was put into receivership in August.
