National Security Adviser John R. Bolton said Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to Washington, D.C., Reuters reported Friday morning.
Mr. Bolton was not clear if Mr. Putin accepted the latest invitation, Reuters noted.
The national security adviser spent the week meeting with top Russian officials after President Trump announced Saturday that the U.S. would pull out of a Cold War-era nuclear arms treaty.
If Mr. Putin accepts, it would be the second time he meets with Mr. Trump one-on-one. The two had their first summit in Helsinki, Finland, in July.
After their initial meeting, Mr. Trump extended his first invitation for Mr. Putin to travel to the U.S. and visit Washington, despite a wave of bipartisan backlash over Mr. Trump’s performance in Helsinki.
