LOUDON, N.H. (AP) - Construction work is about to start to widen a road near the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The state Transportation Department says the project on Route 106 in Loudon is scheduled to start Friday.

The first phase widens nearly a mile-long segment, from 800 feet south of Mudgett Hill Road to 1,400 feet north of the speedway’s south entrance.

The entire project will widen a 3.5-mile section of the road. Drainage and guardrail improvements also are planned, and the construction of three stormwater treatment ponds.

The department says most of the work on the $2.63 million project will be done in 2019.
