PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence has ordered a downtown nightclub to close early for three months in response to a shooting involving one of the club’s patrons.
The Providence Journal reports that the ruling by the city’s Board of Licenses on Wednesday limits Xcel Lounge to operating until 11 p.m.
Also, the club’s owner has been charged with interfering with a police investigation for allegedly directing his staff to delete the interior surveillance video on the night of the shooting.
The club has been closed since the Oct. 8 shooting. Police say a man was captured on surveillance video leaving the club around 2 a.m. and firing shots nearby.
Police say no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
An attorney representing the owner says he plans to appeal the board’s decision.
