WOODLAND, Calif. (AP) - A man who killed an elderly Northern California couple when he was 15 and told authorities he dreamed of being a serial killer won’t be freed from prison.

The Sacramento Bee says a Yolo County judge ruled Wednesday that Daniel Marsh will continue to serve a 52-years-to-life sentence for the 2013 killings in Davis.

Eighty-seven-year-old Oliver Northup and 76-year-old Claudia Maupin were stabbed more than 60 times each.

Marsh, who’s 21, sought resentencing as a juvenile under a 2016 California ballot measure that requires judges - not prosecutors - to determine whether minors are charged as juveniles or adults for certain crimes.

If he’d won resentencing, Marsh could have been freed in four years.

In upholding his adult sentence, the judge said Marsh’s crimes had caused “incalculable” harm.
