PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - State officials say the University of Rhode Island has reached an agreement with faculty members on a new contract.
Faculty union director Jay Walsh says the contract was overwhelmingly approved by faculty members. The Providence Journal reports the three-year agreement calls for 2.5 percent salary increases in January 2019, July 2019 and July 2020.
It also includes the same health insurance agreed to by other state employees and will affect more than 750 full-time faculty.
URI President David Dooley says the contract represents a balance between the university’s priorities and the union’s needs.
The state Office of Post-Secondary Education, which negotiated with the union, says the contract ensures a positive work environment for faculty within an affordable contract.
