Suspicious package found near offices of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Florida law enforcement confirmed Wednesday that a suspicious package was found near the offices of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former Democratic National Committee chairwoman.

Officer Chris Piper, a spokesman for the Sunrise Police Department in Florida, told The Washington Times that the package was found inside the same building where Ms. Wasserman Shultz has her offices.

He said the building has been evacuated, and the bomb squad is en route.

The package found in Florida comes just more than an hour after CNN headquarters in New York was evacuated because of a suspicious device inside the building.

Secret Service confirmed Wednesday that two packages were sent to the Clintons and Obamas in the last 24 hours.

Several media outlets reported Wednesday that a package addressed to former Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. was returned to Ms. Wasserman Schultz’ address, which was done intentionally by whoever sent it.

An image of another package addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan shown on CNN also had Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s office as the return address.

A second package was found near another office of Ms. Wasserman Schultz in a different Florida City.

Aventura Police confirmed they are investigating a suspicious package delivered to the Aventura Government Center.

Officials have not said whether the package was addressed or directly connected to Ms. Wasserman Schultz, but she does have another office branch in that building.

Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo called on politicians to dial down the aggressive rhetoric in the last few weeks before midterms.

“This isn’t about politics, this is about national security, and our number one concern is the safety of Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz and first responders called to these scenes. Unfortunately, we have seen some candidates for office use highly divisive and toxic rhetoric during this cycle,” she said in a statement.
