AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A boil-water notice continued for a third day in Austin as the city of about 900,000 opened five distribution sites to make sure people with special needs can get water.
The city’s official website on Wednesday reiterated that the boil notice for tap water was still in effect as officials worked to treat the weather-affected water supply. Experts have said Austin’s water supply was filled with silt, mud and debris after heavy rain and flooding.
Austin on Monday advised residents to start boiling water for drinking, cooking and making ice.
Wednesday’s update included five sites set up for people unable to boil water, or needing bottled water for work. Daily supplies were 1 gallon of water per person and up to 4 gallons of water for a family of four.
