D.C. United star Wayne Rooney was named the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week for the second time since joining the club.

Rooney scored three goals in two games last week to carry United to two wins and clinch a playoff berth.

The English striker scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Toronto on a free kick. On Sunday, he scored twice as United beat New York City FC 3-1, including one goal on a penalty kick.

Rooney has racked up 12 goals and seven assists in just 19 matches for D.C. He first won Player of the Week for Week 25 of the season in August. The weekly award is voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters.

D.C. United play their final regular-season match at Chicago Fire on Sunday, and then will have a playoff game either Oct. 31 or Nov. 1.
