President Trump lashed out Monday afternoon at Central American countries he said “did nothing” to stop the migrant caravan heading north toward the U.S., saying it was a betrayal of the money the U.S. has sent them.
“We give them hundreds of millions of dollars, they do nothing for us,” the president said at the White House as he prepared to depart for a campaign trip to Texas.
He was speaking specifically of Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, the three countries that account for most of the children and families flowing north in recent years.
But Mr. Trump said he’s also not thrilled with Mexico’s response.
Earlier Monday Mr. Trump suggested terrorists were embedded in the caravan. He defended that claim in the afternoon.
“You’re going to find MS-13, you’re going to find Middle Eastern, you’re going to find everything,” he said.

Hondurans make up most of the latest caravan that is heading north, with thousands already breaking into Mexico and thousands more still on the Guatemala-Mexico border.
Mr. Trump said the caravan is bigger than the 5,000 people reported late last week. Indeed, the latest reports in Mexican media put the figure anywhere from 7,000 to perhaps 14,000.
