Special counsel Robert Mueller is looking into Roger Stone’s connection to WikiLeaks during the 2016 presidential election, The Washington Post reported Sunday evening.

According to the report, Mr. Mueller is scrutinizing comments that Mr. Stone made both publicly and privately about his ability to contact Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.

In September, ABC News reported that Mr. Stone attempted to contact Mr. Assange just days before WikiLeaks published hundreds of stolen emails hacked from the Democratic National Committee.

Mr. Stone denied knowing about the hack beforehand and that he ever tried to meet with Mr. Assange to coordinate information that would pull the attention away from negative coverage on then-candidate Donald Trump.

Twelve Russian actors were indicted by Mr. Mueller in July for hacking emails from the DNC and from Hillary Clinton’s campaign chief John Podesta. The Justice Department found that the agents used WikiLeaks to publish the emails.
