Sen. Bernard Sanders said Monday that the November midterm elections will be “very, very close,” rejecting some predictions of a “blue wave” for Democrats.

“I know a lot of people talk about this blue wave and all that stuff — I don’t believe it,” Mr. Sanders, a Vermont independent and former Democratic candidate, said on Hill.TV.

Mr. Sanders said the power in Congress will most likely be determined by only a “handful of votes.”

“I happen to think that on election night you’re going to find a very, very close situation and maybe a handful of votes determining whether Democrats gain control of the House and that we have an entity to stand up to [President] Trump or we don’t,” he said.

Democrats need 23 additional seats to flip the House. They need two seats to flip the Senate, but are tasked with defending 10 seats in states that were won by Mr. Trump in 2016, The Hill reported.
